randomness and a rant.

I like guitar. Not better than piano, but I like guitar a LOT. Perhaps it's the fact that I can tune it to weird systems and make everything extremely dissonant and easy. It's the only other instrument besides piano that can be used in as many different genres. Yay guitar!

Besides that, percussion ensemble is over, and I am overwhelmed with a bittersweet feeling. I'm glad the chaos is over, but I miss playing. I almost keyed into the percussion studio today, but I had piano work.

I WANT TO GO HOME... I WANT TO GO HOME....I WANT TO GO HOME.....

3 more weeks, and I'll be saying "I WANT TO GO BACK TO COLLEGE!!!"

The next super-paragraph is a rant.

People are starting to annoy me. Not my friends, just the general atmosphere of college idiots. I'm falling back into "be by myself" mode. I played piano for 3 hours straight today and was extremely perturbed when someone walked into the room I was practicing in. I wanted so bad to get up, sigh, and stomp out of the room like a *&%^@, but I couldn't force myself. My back was hurting, but for some reason, I sat there and practiced for another hour before I got up to take a break. I believe I would rather sit on a piano bench with an aching back in an effort to avoid talking to people in the department. There's way too much drama going on in the music department right now, and I have trouble holding myself back from telling people to get over the stupid crap. People make mountains out of pointless molehills. Here recently, I have had a general distaste for most of the people, since some of them NEVER practice. *&(&*@(#$!!!. If people would take half the effort they put into spreading rumors and use that energy towards practicing, rehearsals would be much shorter and we would get more accomplished. I missed last Thursday's rehearsal because of lab, but I was later informed that everything sounds like crap. Pure crap. This is ridiculous. The concert is in 5 days, and we'll have lots of honor band participants and alumni here to listen to how crappy we sound because people are too freaking lazy to practice, and they're too freaking lazy to actually bother to download literature as common as HOLST and listen to it to get a better grasp on how it is supposed to be interpreted. I'm so aggravated with killing myself over piano, when few other people in the department practice at a minimum. What pisses me off even more is the people preparing for piano proficiencies. They have had 2 years to prepare simple piano skills for this. These are skills that ALL music teachers should have, due to the fact that piano skills are detrimentally important to theory skills, and also because sometimes, music teachers need to accompany their choir. People fail to legitimately practice piano, then wait until 2 weeks before proficiencies to worry about it. That is not how piano works because your hands are constantly moving. I was also informed that only one of the faculty members is harsh on grading proficiencies, and fails people if he can tell they never practice. ONE faculty member out of 5, that actually takes proficiencies seriously. Why do they bother to make people take piano class when they pretty much pass everyone on proficiencies regardless of how much they suck? ARRRRRRGGGGGHHH!! I hate how there is so much emphasis placed on people and their major instrument. We're here to learn how to teach music as a whole, not just our instrument. %@#^&#&@!

OK. I'm finished. I feel better.

Aside from being pissed at the music department, I have had fun with my buddies for the past week. We made an interesting trip to waffle hut, then today I went to Spencer with Lindsay for a church rollerskating party. I feel so 1980s....or... I think I do...I only caught about 8 months of the 80s, and my infant memories have faded.

My list of things to do for the next two weeks:

piano jury...the gateway jury to decide if they want to keep me or not :)
piano proficiency
Lori's recital
assist with honor band
chamber recital
something bluegrass
tie dye some shirts for a concert
band concert
choir and chamber singers concert
Kabalevsky recital
finish a test for woodwind methods
Study for the theory final
Earth Science homework
study for earth science test
stupid earth science lab that is a waste of time
Bull crap a paper for PED 301
finish an online assignment
laundry

It looks like a lot, but my professors were kind enough to cram it all into 2 weeks. Thank you, professors. That was nice of you.

Anyways, that's about all.
