My 2009 in retrospect...

January-
*became single after about 18 months and thought it was the end of the world, but ended up happier :)
*began the most challenging semester of my career as a student (more difficult than Fall 2009)
*began a very good friendship with my favorite Canadian, Tanya

February-
*experienced some sort of mysterious acute illness that landed me in the hospital- the first hospital diagnosed me with a ruptured ovarian cyst, I left school for a few days, had another incident at home where I woke up in much more pain... the second hospital told me it was kidney stones. I lost faith in most medical "professionals" that weekend and never went to a specialist for a follow-up. I don't plan on going to the doctor ever again, unless I'm having a baby
*began a 5-month stretch of not drinking soda or sweet tea- I consumed only juice, water, and very little milk... I may have had one or two sodas during percussion ensemble for the caffeine, but that's it.
*seriously contemplated switching to being a flute major instead of a piano major

March-
*Still sick, off and on, from the previous month's trauma... getting better
*Began yet another tiresome, yet extremely rewarding preparation for another percussion ensemble concert- my playing ability improved quite a bit....
*seriously contemplated changing my major... entirely

April-
*Percussion Ensemble Concert! Concert Band Concert! Choir Concert!
*became involved with a very stressful academic controversy that included 30 other people (including myself)- wrote an academic appeal letter and led a group of students to winning our case...The group voted for me to be the spokesperson for that meeting...AHH! hated it.
*considered changing my major entirely and transferring to any other college... hated Glenville State College and everything it stood for, for at least a month (there's one person that basically kept me sane)

May-
*Turned 20
*Decided that I needed to actually figure out what I wanted to do with my life, and buck up if I was going to major in music. Figured that I would give myself a break and figure out my plan over the summer break...
*Finals... Passed ALL of my classes with As and Bs
*Commencement- said goodbye to a very good friend...I was very sad
*second oldest sister was married off... I became an "only child" at home
*other sister announced she was pregnant

June-
*Took a much needed month off
*began looking at other career choices, decided that I still wanted to be involved with music
*slept in more than I ever had before
*only practiced guitar and flute... no piano...decided that I HAD to major in piano because I didn't like the other instruments as much

June/July/August-
*Energy Express, Volunteer Coordinator..... met some kids that changed my outlook on life... taught the kids a song in sign language and accompanied them on guitar at the parent's night... decided that music education was what I wanted to do
*began conquering my fear of needles by donating blood to the red cross on a regular basis
*taught my mom the value of facebook...

September-
*attended Mayberry Days with a small group of band people. jumped in a pool for $20
*began an extremely good semester with a new attitude
*began composing a piano solo that I intend to perform at my senior recital

October-
*changed my opinions of a few people, stopped ignoring my feelings, and tested other peoples' feelings
*marched a very challenging show in band
*lost a lot of sleep due to a lot of reasons
*practiced a lot of piano. spent a lot of time alone and decided that my sisters and parents, perhaps a couple of friends, as well as a few cousins and perhaps a teacher or two were the only people i could really trust

November-
*practiced so much piano... improved by miles...loved every minute of it
*snagged a new, very good boyfriend
*realized that my senior recital is next fall...
*continued not sleeping...occasionally skipped meals... practiced piano instead. I had fun. My piano teacher appreciated it.
*lost 10 pounds.

December-
*finished out the semester with As and Bs, with a 4.0 in music--- so far, the cummulative GPA in my music classes is a 3.964... hate to toot my own horn (or piano), but I'm proud of myself :)
*made a phenomenal trip to Chicago for the Midwest Band and Orchestra Conference... had the time of my life

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!
