Life is a Song, Love is the Music.

My, what a gullywasher!

When I woke up this morning, the sun was shining and it was beautiful outside. Around 4 O'clock, everything turned sour... Here's the storm that passed and is still above my head at the moment. Luckily, my house (the cross sign a little west of Beckley) is no longer in the orange section. The current storm track says that we are probably going to get hit again in about an hour from the storm over Wyoming county...
As for a few weeks ago, my aunt was actually struck by lightning... She's OK, but it somehow managed to zap her through the metal door on the Dollar Store she was entering. She said it felt like the lightning went through her head. That very same day, I was on my way to Glenville from Buckhannon. I later learned that the clocktower in Glenville had also been struck. The last I heard, the damage was estimated at $10,000. There goes my tuition.

I pretty much love my job. We get a "living allowance" of $1600, and if we complete 300 hours of service, we also get a $1000 scholarship. It isn't salaried, but I realized today that even though they told us that it's a service, I technically get paid around $8.66 an hour for a Monday-Friday, 7:30 to 1:30 job that feeds me for free. That beats working at wal-mart! I also love the people I work with, and I feel like I'm making a difference with the kids. I usually have about 8 volunteers working under me, and I fill out a lot of paperwork, as well as write newsletters and donation requests to local businesses. My biggest challenge is working with teens, but they seem to be warming up to me. At first, I was a bit of a softy and I kind of let them run over top of me, but I eventually wised up and gave them a speech about respect and that if they gave me just a little bit, that I would take their suggestions on what they wanted to do off of my to-do list. That seemed to work. They quit giving such smart answers! I have a feeling that this experience will come in handy when I'm a music teacher. YAY!

Dad is out on a business trip to Montana. I guess he'll get to drive to North Dakota on Sunday, then back to Montana for a week. He won't be home until the 18th... UGH! So much for thinking he would be home more after he quit working in the coal mines.

That's about it.
